carmine-colored lipstick?
11th-Jun-2010 08:16 pm
I am trying to replace my Besame Carmine lipstick and I haven't been able to find that color in any vegan cosmetic lines. Carmine is the "original" red color lipstick and was tremendously popular in the early 20th century. It is a bright warm orange-toned red. Sometimes you'll still see old ladies wearing it because it's the same color they've been wearing since the 40's. It's the same color that Bette Davis wears in The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex http://www.themakeupgallery.info/period/c16/elizabeth/lizessex.htm

Has anyone ever seen a vegan lipstick in this color??

Are any of these the right color? If not, you can probably send the shop owner an email with a link to the color you want and she can probably do a custom order, she seems pretty nice 'bout that sort of thing.

She also has an etsy shop:

I'm not a lip stick person, so I don't know much about it, but I buy my other makeup and brushes there, and they're great!

If you can't find the exact shade you can try mixing lipstick colors yourself. If you come up with the right color combo, its possible to mix the two (or three) together and store in a small tin as a single shade. Lipsticks can slightly melt with heat (after removed from tube) and will solidify when cool.

Beauty Without Cruelty - Tangerine? (too orange?) or BWoC 'Chilli Red' (too red?) - both mixed together?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics do 'lip tars' which are designed to be mixed together to create your perfect colour - maybe try those? They're all vegan.
