Nat sheepish
I e-mailed Smashbox the other day for a list of their actual vegan products, meaning no insect ingredients either. I was a little peeved that in their Smashbox Cares section they called themselves vegan, and then included carmine in a lot of their products =/ That's a bit misleading. Anywho! The last smashbox e-mail that I saw was from 2008, so I thought you guys might be interested in an updated version.

Are there any vegan mascaras at Sephor or MAC? I'm looking for a black or black/brown colour. I searched through some posts and haven't found any answers, hopefully I didn't just miss something. I did see that someone mentioned Tarte's lash hugger natural mascara was vegan, but it's not listed in their vegan makeup list =/

Thanks for your help!

EDIT: I'm also wondering if anyone has tried Arbonne cosmetics? All their products are vegan. They're quit pricy, but if they're good, I wouldn't mind splurging. I tried a sample of their FC5 face wash and moisturizer and loved it, so I'm going to order some, but I've never tried their cosmetics.

Urban Decay is having another Friends and Family online sale. The code is 1SFNF for 30% off orders.

They have new vegan summer products too: Makeup setting sprays, Summer of love nail kit, Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, 2 new Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss, and gold eye pencil. Which are all vegan!

I haven't seen any of those items at Sephora yet, and want to try the new tinted mositurizer.
Are UD foundations and face creams are mostly yellow based? (Suitable for paler tones?)
Also which of their lip pencils works best as a neutral color? Wallflower, Naked, Ozone?

Tarte has now included a page of their vegan cosmetics:

http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-shop-vegan-cosmetics

I have used clean slate, emphasEYES, multiplEYE, lip glosses, fRxtion, slide-tin lip balm (mouth off is great!), ReCreate, lifted, and double dose berry boost & gloss. I have rejuvalash, but have not tried it yet.

Today, they are offering 30% off using code GREEN17 at checkout.

Came across another natural makeup company, 100% Pure color cosmetics. Not many color options. Interestingly enough this is from their FAQ,

"Why Vegan?
We love animals and refuse to support anything that hurts animals which is why none of our formulas are ever tested on animals (everything we use is food grade and does not require testing, whereas chemical ingredientsmust be tested). All our makeup brushes are from synthetic fibers. No animals were hurt for their fur and no animals were hurt for any of our ingredients (the only animal ingredient we use is crulety free honey)."

The better question is not "why vegan?" but "what products are suitable for vegans?". There's also pearl powder in some of their products. Otherwise fruit pigments in cosmetics doesn't sound bad at all.

Has anyone came across matte red lipsticks? I have zuzu luxe but it's shiny red. UD are mostly shiny too.
18th-Feb-2010 08:29 pm - eyeshadow palettes?
WTF?!
I am looking for larger eyeshadow palettes to buy. It seems most vegan companies only sell individual eyeshadows and larger companies (like the ones I found at Urban Decay) give the warning that all eye shadows could contain caramine.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions?
EDIT: I just received an email back from Urban Decay:
Hello Danielle,

Thank you for your email and inquiry. Unfortunately we do not have any palettes that are Vegan at this time. There are no plans to create one. However I will forward your suggestions to our product development team. If you have any further questions please feel free to reply to this email.

Hello!
Could you please add to the list the Canadian brand Cherry Crush Cosmetics? They make really cool natural and entirely vegan lipsticks, and are really affordable. These are their websites:

I'm wondering if anyone here can advise me as to a vegan heat protection product, since I blowdry/straighten my hair regularly and really need something to stop it from being damaged. I live in the UK, so it would have to be a product that is available over here... ):

Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated.

i realize there are tons of questions about sephora all the time, but i don't know where else to ask/look.
My question is: are Sephora eyeshadows & mascaras tested on animals? i mean the sephora brand itself.
I already emailed the sephora in my country (i'm in south europe) but they are not replying.
The ingredients of the eyeshadows are vegan (checked) (still have to check the mascara) but it's the testing that keeps me wondering

Hey, has anyone on here heard of Ozoneated Gel? It's listed as a product at an online website for all-natural products. Here's a brief description:

"Ozone is one of nature’s super purifiers and protectors of the environment. Just as nature uses ozone to protect and renew life on earth, ozone gel can be applied to the skin so the body can absorb this special form of oxygen to help increase healthy oxygen levels internally as well as helping to protect against harmful microorganisms."

It's supposedly good for acne, bruises, cuts, dandruff, eczema, etc. Just wondering if anyone's used such a product before & if its legit or bogus.

TIA!

Other than Urban Decay, what vegan options are there at Sephora? I haven't bought makeup in years so I need everything and I like the idea of one stop shopping.

Are Urban Decay brushes worth the price? Anyone uses them???

I just got eccotools brushes, as well have brushes in my makeup kit, so I'm in no need of brushes yet. But because Urban Decay sales are so rare I'm debating if I should buy them too.

Thanks!

PS, What is your favorite vegan Urban Decay product? I love their heavy metal glitter eyeliners.

Recently I purchased the Organic Wear makeup remover liquid to try instead of my usual makeup remover. It's pretty bad. It could barely remove eyeshadow and liner; let alone when mascara was added. It's possibly only useful if very little makeup is worn. I haven't tried other removers from that line. They got towelettes, lotion, and pads.

For Canadians there are 2 mail in rebates going on at the website: $7 off Organic Wear makeup removers and $6 off Bronzer Boutique.
http://www.physiciansformula.com/en-ca/rebates/mail-in-rebate.html

Americans have more including the remover, bronze booster, Mineral Wear Face Brighteners and
Bronze Brighteners, and free Natural Origin Mascara (which probably contains beeswax).

"What's with the 'Vegan' thing?
In a time when many cosmetic companies make the claim that their products are "Cruelty Free" simply because Animal Testing has become less cost-effective, OCC felt it was necessary to raise the bar on this issue. We pledge not to use Animal-Derived Ingredients (including Lanolin, Beeswax, Carmine, etc.) in our products, ever. We simply believe that it's unnecessary, since there are alternatives that are just as readily available, and equally effective in the formulation of our products."

I am in love with dusting powders, but they're messy!! I want to find a cruelty free powder puff. You would think most powder puffs are made out of cotton or synthetic materials, but most of the ones I have found are made out of down :/ Does anyone know where I can buy a cruelty free powder puff?

I noticed this makeup line at a health food store, Zuii Organic. I haven't purchased any of the makeup yet because it's not an inexpensive line. However they have a decent color selection.
The ingredients aren't listed on the website for the products, so more than likely not everything is vegan.

in the second paragraph, fourth line:

"We never test on animals (that would be silly. They don't wear makeup), and there are no animal parts, such as carmine, silk, pearl, lanolin, beeswax, and tallow in our products"

ALSO,

a lot of facefront cosmetics are vegan as well.

All of our minerals DO NOT contain animal derived ingredients. Some of other other products such as eyeliners, brushes, and etc may contain animal derived ingredients. If you ever have questions about a particular item please let us know.

To whom it may concern,

I was wondering which of your products contain animal derived ingredients (i.e.:beeswax, carmine)? I read the ingredients list and it seems like all the products you have come from minerals, but I was wondering if this is true?

Thanks,
Alina

Hi! I've had a skim though a lot of the past posts, some of which are over a year old, so I thought it would be better to add my 2pence here rather than reply to them all directly!

False eyelashes with Vegan glue: Hard Candy do them, for fellow Brits, B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful have recently brought some out (Worldwide delivery available). I would also bookmark B Never anyway as they are the sister company of Lush (<3), and their make-up range is entirely vegan.

Somebody mentioned Stargazer. Their website now says "We Cannot Guarantee that any of our products are vegan friendly".

Avon: Why are they on PETA's list of non-animal testers, and yet they're on Uncaged "bad" list? The same can be said of Estée Lauder (who own MAC). How trustworthy is PETA's list anyhow? They say themselves that they only have the word of these companies. I distrust companies who don't offer a fixed cut-off date, plus I am not a fan of PETA!

I seem to recall Too Faced being affiliated with Urban Decay. Is the same corporation behind them?

And finally! Can anybody recommend an eyeshadow primer? I've heard wonderful things about Urban Decay's, but it isn't vegan. :( I suspect Smashbox might have something, but I'm pretty pissed by their email I read a few pages back. Is MAC's Vegan?
